Talking Therapy Explained

Talking Therapy is often referred to as psychotherapy or counselling. It is a form of treatment that involves talking to a trained professional in a confidential space to explore and understand thoughts, emotions and behaviours. The primary goal of talking therapy is to provide individuals with a safe, supportive and non-judgemental environment to address emotional or psychological challenges, improve mental health and promote personal growth and wellbeing.

People seek talking therapy for various reasons and the decision to start is often influenced by a crisis, individual circumstances, experiences, or need. Some common reasons why people might seek these services include:

  • Mental health concerns.
  • Stress, anxiety, and depression including feeling unable to cope.
  • Relationship issues.
  • Trauma.
  • Addiction, including smoking, chocolate, and binge eating.
  • Life transition and difficulties adjusting.
  • Self-discovery including exploration and personal improvement.
  • Low self-esteem and self-confidence

There are many kinds of talking therapies, each with their own effective techniques and approaches. I choose to use a combination of Life Coaching, Hypnotherapy and Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) through open, one-to-one converstaion in a talking space environment.

However, if talking through challenges is hard for you then I also offer transformational therapeutic art coaching which provides a space to explore challenges through mark making and image creation. This is not about creating a masterpiece and requires no artistic talent at all. It involves drawing or painting something that means something to you, and then discussing the image you have created to reach a greater level of awareness and understanding.

Seeking these services can feel like a huge proactive step that often requires great courage. The motivation might be to address any unwanted emotional, psychological, or interpersonal concerns which may relate to a specific event. The aim will be to eliminate these unwanted constructs, promoting self-awareness, and fostering personal growth and well-being.
